Tinubu Nominates Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite in a cabinet reshuffle designed to reinforce the administration’s fiscal reform agenda.

The nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for confirmation. Following the development, Uzoka-Anite has been reassigned to serve as Minister of State at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, marking her third portfolio under the current administration.

The presidency described Oyedele as a seasoned economist, accountant and public policy specialist with extensive experience in fiscal reform. Before his nomination, he chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded the restructuring of Nigeria’s tax system.

The statement noted that he played a central role in the comprehensive review and overhaul of the country’s tax framework, a move aimed at strengthening revenue mobilisation and enhancing fiscal sustainability.

Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting. He has also completed executive education programmes at leading international institutions across Europe, North America and Africa.

He spent more than two decades at a global professional services firm, joining in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. In addition to his corporate career, he serves as a professor at a private university in Ogun State and as a visiting scholar at a leading business school in Lagos.

In announcing the nomination, President Tinubu commended Oyedele’s leadership of the tax reform committee, stating that he guided the overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system with clarity, courage and competence.

The President added that Oyedele’s depth of expertise would help strengthen the country’s fiscal architecture at a critical time for economic reform.

On Uzoka-Anite’s redeployment, Tinubu said her experience across various portfolios remains valuable to the administration’s reform programme, reiterating his commitment to building a team defined by expertise, discipline and results as the government advances its “Nigeria First” agenda.
