The National Pension Commission has launched a new digital platform that allows Retirement Savings Account holders to complete the mandatory data recapture exercise without visiting Pension Fund Administrator offices, in a move expected to ease long-standing operational challenges within the pension system.

The platform, called the Data Recapture Self-Service Platform (PENCAP), enables contributors to update their personal and biometric information remotely through a secure online portal. The Commission said the initiative is aimed at improving the accuracy of pension records, reducing delays in benefit processing, and easing congestion at PFA offices nationwide.

According to PenCom, the platform was developed in collaboration with licensed Pension Fund Administrators and the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria as part of broader efforts to modernise pension administration and expand the use of digital service channels.

Through the platform, RSA holders can update their biodata, upload relevant identification documents, complete biometric verification through live facial capture, and submit a digital signature to finalise the process. PenCom noted that the self-service option is primarily targeted at contributors who enrolled in the Contributory Pension Scheme on or before July 1, 2019, and have yet to complete the data recapture exercise.

The Commission explained that the data recapture exercise is compulsory and has a direct impact on access to retirement benefits, retiree verification, and the resolution of issues such as multiple or inconsistent RSA records.

PenCom originally introduced the data recapture exercise in 2019 to address gaps in the pension database and improve record integrity. The process was later strengthened through integration with national identity systems and the mandatory use of Bank Verification Numbers to reduce identity fraud and align pension administration with broader financial system regulations.

Eligible contributors are required to have an internet-enabled device with a functional camera, a valid personal email address, and relevant identification documents to complete the process.
