Amosun Denies Demolishing Dangote Cement Factory

Former Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has refuted claims by Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, that his cement factory was demolished twice during Amosun’s tenure as governor.

Dangote made the allegations during a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun, Amosun’s successor. In response, Amosun issued a statement denying the claims and urging Dangote to provide evidence of the necessary approvals for the structures allegedly demolished.

Amosun emphasized that government operations are conducted through Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, each with specific mandates, including physical development approvals. He stated that no individual or entity, including Dangote, is above the law.

The former governor highlighted his administration’s role in facilitating the establishment of Dangote’s Ibese Cement Factory and attracting over 500 companies to Ogun State. He noted that during his tenure, Ogun State became Nigeria’s “Industrial Capital,” accounting for 75% of the country’s Foreign Direct Investments in industry.

Amosun also recalled that Dangote had previously praised his administration for promoting investments and enabling the commencement of the Ibese Cement Factory after years of delays under previous administrations. He concluded by challenging Dangote to provide details of the land acquisition and planning approvals to clarify the matter.
