SEC Launches Tech Adoption Survey for Capital Market Operators

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has initiated a survey to evaluate the adoption of advanced technologies among registered Capital Market Operators (CMOs) in Nigeria. The exercise aims to enhance innovation, efficiency, and resilience within the capital market ecosystem.

According to a circular issued on Wednesday, the SEC directed all registered operators to log into its e-portal and complete the survey, which will be open from May 5 to May 20, 2025. The commission stated that the survey is designed to measure how CMOs are integrating modern technologies into their operations.

SEC Director-General Emomotimi Agama recently emphasized the importance of technological innovation in fostering growth, transparency, and operational efficiency within the capital market. He noted that the regulatory body is adjusting its frameworks to accommodate emerging financial products and services driven by digital advancements.

Agama outlined the commission’s innovation strategy, built on three key pillars: investor protection, market expansion, and practical problem-solving. He also highlighted the SEC’s Regulatory Incubation Programme, which provides a controlled environment for fintech startups to operate for a year while relevant regulatory policies are developed.
