MTN Group has announced the launch of a new digital streaming service in partnership with UK-based video software company Synamedia, setting the stage for a significant shake-up in Africa’s online entertainment space.

With this move, MTN is entering the fast-growing video-on-demand market, positioning itself as a direct rival to platforms like Netflix, Showmax, Prime Video, and DStv. The service will offer localized content designed specifically for African audiences, delivered via mobile and broadband networks.

According to MTN’s Chief Commercial Officer, Selorm Adadevoh, the collaboration is built around innovation and inclusivity. “Our goal is to provide an entertainment experience that reflects the stories, cultures, and creativity of Africa, powered by real-time insights and robust technology,” he said.

The platform promises a blend of original productions, regional hits, and international content, aiming to reduce data barriers while supporting local filmmakers and content creators. This aligns with MTN’s broader digital strategy to go beyond connectivity by offering services that enrich the everyday lives of its users.
