Customs Transfers ₦36.5m Expired Raw Materials to NAFDAC

The Nigeria Customs Service at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal has handed over a container of expired raw materials valued at N36.5 million to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.

The 20-foot container, intercepted during routine cargo examination, was found to contain 440 bags of expired industrial raw materials imported from Indonesia, in violation of import regulations and public health standards.

In a related operation, Customs officials also intercepted a separate container falsely declared as zipped luggage but discovered to contain empty suitcases valued at about N5 million.

Customs authorities said the seizures highlight their zero-tolerance stance on false declaration and the importation of substandard goods. The command disclosed that it recorded N147.2 billion in revenue in 2025, exceeding its target and representing a 35 per cent increase compared with the previous year.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing customs laws, facilitating legitimate trade, and protecting public health and national revenue.
