Advanced Micro Devices has been crowned the “New Chip King” by a leading Wall Street bank, signaling a major shift in the balance of power within the global artificial intelligence hardware market.
In a research note that sent strong signals to investors, analysts at Wells Fargo identified AMD as their top semiconductor pick, projecting a 55% upside in the company’s share price. The firm’s price target of $345 reflects growing confidence that AMD is no longer merely chasing industry leader NVIDIA, but is actively reshaping the competitive landscape of AI infrastructure.
The bullish outlook is driven by AMD’s rapid execution across both hardware and software. Its Instinct accelerator lineup has evolved at unprecedented speed, moving from early adoption to large-scale deployment across hyperscale data centers. Products such as the MI300 series became some of the fastest-ramping accelerators in AMD’s history, while newer generations have pushed performance even further.
At the heart of AMD’s momentum is its focus on inference—the task of running AI models in real-world applications rather than training them. As enterprises shift toward deploying AI at scale, cost efficiency, memory bandwidth, and power consumption have become critical differentiators. Analysts believe AMD’s architecture gives it a structural advantage in these areas.
