Transcorp Hotels Welcomes New Board Chair, Dr. Awele Elumelu

Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp Group), has announced the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Awele Vivien Elumelu, OFR, as Chair of its Board, effective January 1, 2026.

Dr. Elumelu’s appointment follows the retirement of the current Chair, Mr. Emmanuel N. Nnorom, who will step down on the same date.

A medical doctor by training, Dr. Elumelu brings extensive leadership experience spanning healthcare, insurance, corporate governance, and philanthropy. She currently chairs Avon Healthcare Limited (Avon HMO), Nigeria’s leading health insurance provider, and Avon Medical Practice, a growing network of hospitals and clinics. She also chairs Heirs Insurance Brokers and is a founding Director of Heirs Holdings Limited.

Her academic background includes an MBBS from the University of Benin, clinical practice in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, and executive education from Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland, and the London School of Economics.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Elumelu is a Trustee and Co-Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Africa’s leading philanthropy dedicated to empowering young entrepreneurs. Through the Foundation, she has played a pivotal role in advancing gender inclusion and supporting more than 24,000 young Africans with seed capital, training, and mentorship.
