Ogun state government has provided irrigation pumps, tractors and grants to assist farmers in the state to prepare for planting season inorder to increase productivity and enhance food security.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs. Kehinde Jokotoye, stated this while speaking during an interview in Abeokuta, the state capital, saying that farmers must be proactive in preparing for planting season.

Jokotoye maintained that early preparation for wet season farming was a crucial factor to increasing food productivity, noting that farmers in the state must take advantage of the available farming tools to make best use of the season to ensure food sufficiency in the state.

She further explained that Extension Officers and Agents would be on ground to assist in training and advising farmers on ways to broaden their knowledge with new strategies needed to adopt in boosting their operations during the season.

The PS, however, stressed that apart from provision of the farming tools, inputs, seeds and fertilisers, among others, would be made available to ensure a successful planting season.

She hinted that farmers’ preparation for the season with hard work would go a long way in affirming their contribution to the provision of sufficient food and bountiful yield, assuring them of the unrelenting support of the current administration to improve their livelihoods.
