Dangote Refinery recalls redeployed Engineers after ‘conditional pardon’

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has approved the recall of engineers previously redeployed across its business units, granting what management described as a “conditional pardon” after internal disciplinary actions tied to earlier operational disruptions.

The decision, communicated in an internal memo to staff, follows what the company called an extensive review process, as well as appeals from stakeholders, industry figures, and the affected engineers themselves. Management said the move balances accountability with a renewed opportunity for affected personnel to reintegrate into critical operations.

According to the directive signed by the Group Vice President, Oil & Gas, Devakumar Edwin, all impacted engineers will be invited for meetings ahead of their reassignment to resume duties at the refinery. The recall also extends to employees who had earlier declined redeployment options within other subsidiaries of the Dangote Group.

The company emphasised that while the initial disciplinary measures were necessary to safeguard operations and enforce organisational standards, the latest decision reflects a broader commitment to fairness and human capital retention in a highly technical industry.

“This decision was not an easy one. It reflects not only our belief in second chances but also serves as a clear reminder that loyalty, professionalism and adherence to organisational standards are non-negotiable,” the memo stated.

Management reiterated that returning engineers would be expected to demonstrate renewed dedication and strict compliance with corporate values, warning that any recurrence of misconduct would attract swift and decisive sanctions. The refinery maintained its zero-tolerance stance on actions capable of undermining operational stability.

Industry analysts say the recall underscores the strategic importance of skilled engineering talent to the refinery’s operations, particularly as it continues to scale production capacity and optimise efficiency in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.

The refinery added that it is focused on strengthening operational performance and maintaining its role as a key player in the country’s energy landscape.

“We welcome our colleagues back, with the expectation of renewed dedication, and we look forward to working together to strengthen our operations and deliver excellence in the oil and gas sector,” the statement added.

The development comes months after the Dangote Group, in October 2025, redeployed several refinery engineers across its subsidiaries as part of broader measures aimed at stabilising operations during a challenging period.
