BREAKING: Tinubu Drops Edun, Appoints Oyedele as Minister of Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a cabinet reshuffle that led to the removal of Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement.

Naija News reports that the decision was contained in a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, confirming a minor restructuring of the Federal Executive Council.

The statement, signed by George Akume, disclosed that Edun has been directed to hand over immediately to Oyedele, who now assumes office as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

It also confirmed that Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has been relieved of his position as Minister of Housing and Urban Development, while Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been nominated as minister-designate for the ministry.

According to the memo, the Minister of State in the Housing Ministry has been directed to oversee the affairs of the ministry pending completion of the transition process.

The SGF stated that all handing-over and taking-over processes are expected to be concluded on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026.

He explained that the changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion within the cabinet, improving synergy in governance, and enhancing delivery of the administration’s economic agenda under the Renewed Hope framework.

The statement added that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.

It further noted that the President expressed appreciation to outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future engagements.

The Presidency also assured that the process of cabinet reinvigoration would remain continuous as part of efforts to improve governance efficiency and policy delivery.
