China Executes 11 Convicted Over Myanmar Telecom Scam Operations

Chinese authorities have executed 11 individuals convicted for their roles in transnational telecom scam operations linked to criminal networks operating out of Myanmar, state media reported.

The executions were carried out following death sentences handed down by a court in Wenzhou, eastern China, after the Supreme People’s Court approved the rulings. The convicted individuals were found guilty of crimes including fraud, unlawful detention, intentional injury, homicide, and running illegal gambling operations.

State media said several of those executed were key members of the notorious Ming family criminal group, whose activities were linked to the deaths of multiple Chinese citizens and injuries to others.

Chinese officials said the executions form part of a broader crackdown on cyber fraud networks that have flourished in parts of Southeast Asia, particularly along Myanmar’s porous border regions. The operations have expanded beyond Chinese-speaking targets to defraud victims globally.

Authorities said China will continue to strengthen cooperation with regional governments to dismantle scam networks, repatriate suspects, and pursue prosecutions as part of what it described as a sustained campaign against cross-border fraud.
