Court Removes Meta and X From Cybercrime Case Against Sowore
An Abuja Federal High Court has removed Meta Platforms Inc. and X Corporation from the cybercrime case filed by the Federal Government against activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore.
The decision followed an amendment of the original charge by the prosecution, leaving Sowore as the sole defendant in the case.
Sowore is accused of publishing a social media post that the prosecution alleges was false and capable of causing a breakdown of law and order, an offence said to fall under provisions of the Cybercrimes Act.
At the resumed hearing, Sowore pleaded not guilty to the amended charge. Defence counsel objected to the prosecution’s attempt to proceed with trial, arguing that the defence had not been provided with witness details or statements.
The court ordered the prosecution to make the witness statement available to the defence and adjourned the matter to January 22, 2026, for hearing.
