Ex‑Aviation Minister in Dock as FG Pursues ₦5bn Fraud Charges

Abuja, December 10, 2025 – The Federal Government has arraigned former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, over fresh allegations of corruption involving N5 billion.

Oduah faced a five-count charge filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi. The charges, which include conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences, relate to transactions allegedly carried out during her tenure at the Ministry of Aviation.

According to the prosecution, Oduah fraudulently obtained N2.4 billion through Broad Waters Resources, claiming the funds were meant for technical supervision. She is also accused of receiving an additional N1.6 billion and ₦839 million via similar arrangements, contrary to provisions of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offences Act.

Oduah’s co-defendant, Gloria Odita, was also arraigned. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Justice Hamza Muazu granted Oduah bail on self-recognition, ordering her to deposit her international passport with the court and prohibiting her from travelling abroad without prior court approval. Oduah was represented by Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), while Wale Balogun (SAN) appeared for Odita.

This marks the second time the Federal Government is prosecuting Oduah on this matter, after an earlier case filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was withdrawn.
