Dangote Group Expands Fertiliser Operations in Nigeria and Ethiopia

Dangote Group has entered into strategic technical partnerships with leading international firms to drive the next phase of its fertiliser expansion in Nigeria and the development of new plants in Ethiopia. The company described these collaborations as a major step in its long‑term plan to boost regional food security, enhance agricultural productivity, and strengthen Africa’s role in the global fertiliser market.

Dangote Cement Plc also reaffirmed its commitment to community welfare through sustained social investment programmes across Nigeria and other African countries.

According to the Group, the expansion will raise urea production capacity in Nigeria from three million metric tons to nine million metric tons annually. The current facility operates two trains with a combined capacity of three million metric tons, while the new phase will add four additional trains to meet rising demand for high‑quality fertiliser across Africa and beyond.

In Ethiopia, the company recently broke ground on a $2.5 billion fertiliser plant in Gode, designed to produce three million metric tons of urea annually. This project underscores Dangote’s commitment to food security and industrial growth across the continent.

The Group further disclosed that Topsoe will provide ammonia technology licensing and complete process design packages for six ammonia plants—four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia. Topsoe is globally recognised for advanced ammonia process technologies that support efficient and environmentally responsible production.
