Unlocking Africa’s Tech Potential: Heirs Technologies Calls for Bold Investment

Heirs Technologies, a leading force in Africa’s digital innovation landscape, has released its inaugural industry report titled Africa’s Digital Leap: Cloud, Connectivity & AI in the Next Decade. The report outlines the technologies, policy priorities, and investment strategies poised to shape the continent’s digital future.
Despite hosting nearly 19% of the world’s population, Africa accounts for less than 1% of global data center capacity. The report emphasizes the urgent need for infrastructure investment, regulatory reform, and talent development to unlock the continent’s full digital potential.
The study reveals that cloud adoption is gaining momentum, with over half of African enterprises running the majority of their workloads in the cloud. Southern and West Africa are leading this shift, while North Africa faces challenges due to infrastructure and regulatory constraints. Africa’s AI market, currently valued at $4.5 billion, is projected to contribute up to $2.9 trillion to GDP by 2030. Applications span critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, finance, and education.
Major infrastructure projects like the 2Africa subsea cable and the development of more than 211 active data centers are laying the groundwork for faster connectivity and cloud-enabled growth. Between 2019 and the first quarter of 2025, African AI startups raised $1.25 billion, with South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt attracting the majority of investment capital.
Launching the report, Obong Idiong, CEO of Heirs Technologies, called for decisive action. “Africa is not at the edge of a digital leap; we are already mid-flight. The next decade will be defined not only by the technologies we embrace but by how boldly and inclusively we implement them. This journey belongs to all of us.”
The 38-page report offers a comprehensive review of Africa’s digital economy, regional benchmarking of adoption trends, policy and investment insights, and forward-looking strategies to position Africa as a global digital powerhouse.
