Nigeria Secures $791m CNG Investments in Two Months, Expands Clean Energy Push

In a significant stride toward cleaner mobility, Nigeria attracted over $791.49 million in investments for compressed natural gas (CNG) development between May and June 2025.

The funding—channeled into infrastructure, logistics, and vehicle conversion—forms part of the broader Presidential CNG Initiative.

Since its rollout, over 100,000 CNG kits have been deployed across the country, and more than 1,440 vehicles converted in 20 states. The government is targeting the conversion of one million vehicles by 2027 and aims to train at least 25,000 technicians. Already, over 5,500 have received technical training, supporting a growing network of over 65 operational refuelling stations and 300 conversion centres.

Officials estimate that full implementation could save Nigeria more than ₦500 billion in fuel costs and cut carbon emissions by 57%. With ongoing expansion and policy reforms, Nigeria is positioning CNG as a central alternative in its energy transition agenda.
