ChatGPT Agent: OpenAI’s New Tool for Smarter Task Automation

Published

on

OpenAI has launched a new feature called ChatGPT Agent, designed to handle complex tasks for users and automate everyday workflows, marking a major step into the realm of task management AI.

ChatGPT Agent can perform actions such as generating slide presentations, placing online orders, managing expense reports, and updating spreadsheets on a recurring basis. Users can also schedule these tasks to repeat, and modify or stop the process at any time without losing progress.

The AI assistant is initially available to Pro users, with access extending to Plus and Team subscribers over the following days, and eventually to Enterprise and Education plan holders.

Although safeguards have been added, the company acknowledged risks such as potential malicious prompts that could lead the AI to accidentally share sensitive data. To protect privacy, users will have the ability to delete browsing histories and log out of all connected sessions with a single click.

The tool is a culmination of prior AI developments, including earlier systems that performed web tasks and synthesized complex data. OpenAI described ChatGPT Agent as a fusion of conversational AI, web interaction tools, and deep research capabilities.

The company has seen significant investment this year, including a historic $40 billion funding round and the launch of a $500 billion initiative—Stargate Project—aimed at building U.S. AI infrastructure. This latest advancement brings OpenAI a step closer to its vision of achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI), where machines can learn and reason at human-like levels.
