Dantata & Sawoe Urged to Resolve $1.4M Dispute with Zutari

The Federal High Court in Abuja has advised Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company Limited to show more seriousness in settling a $1.4 million debt owed to Zutari Consulting Nigeria Ltd over a subcontract at the Dangote Fertilizer Plant in Lekki, Lagos.

Presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Umar, issued the advice following repeated delays and unfulfilled promises of settlement from the construction firm.

The case stems from a dispute involving a $1,257,592.83 debt awarded to Zutari Consulting after arbitration proceedings held in London in April 2021. Although both parties agreed to settle, Dantata & Sawoe has reportedly failed to fulfil the agreed terms.

At the hearing, Zutari’s lawyer, Chris Ekemezie, expressed frustration that Dantata & Sawoe had been stalling for over two years. Responding, the company’s legal counsel, I.I. Okim, admitted to suggesting the sale of company property as a possible means of settling the debt—but stressed that the conversation was private.

Justice Umar noted that the continued delays only worsen the value of the outstanding sum. He encouraged both parties to pursue an out-of-court resolution if possible.

The matter was adjourned to September 22, 2025, for a report of settlement or further hearing.
