Fidelity Bank Plc has confirmed that its Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, has acquired 18,000,000 units of the bank’s shares, further increasing her stake in the institution.
This transaction was officially recorded on May 19, 2025, in Lagos and announced through a notice published on the Nigerian Exchange.
The shares were purchased at N20.35 each, amounting to a total investment of approximately N366.3 million. With this acquisition, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe’s total shareholding has grown from 94,644,260 units to 112,644,260 units, marking a 19.02% increase. Consequently, her stake in Fidelity Bank now accounts for 29.03% of director shareholding, rising from 25.56% at the end of 2024.
The purchase coincided with heightened trading activity, as Fidelity Bank led the volume chart on May 19, 2025, with 60.1 million shares exchanged on the Nigerian Exchange. This move is expected to reinforce investor confidence, especially following the bank’s statement dismissing bankruptcy rumors. The bank attributed these claims to a deliberate attempt by certain media groups to tarnish its reputation.
