Dr. Pascal Dozie Remembered as Pillar of Financial Leadership at NGX Group Tribute Event
Prominent figures from Nigeria’s financial and corporate sectors came together at the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) headquarters for a solemn afternoon of tributes and a ceremonial Closing Gong session to honour the late Dr. Pascal G. Dozie, OON, CON — a pioneer in Nigeria’s financial services industry and former President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Council.
Hosted by NGX Group, the occasion was a celebration of Dr. Dozie’s immense contributions to the development of Nigeria’s capital market and institutional leadership.
Chairman of NGX Group, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, opened the event by highlighting Dr. Dozie’s multifaceted legacy. “He wasn’t just a successful economist and entrepreneur; he was an institution builder. His leadership brought a vision that helped transform the Exchange into a platform of global repute,” he said.
Several respected industry leaders followed with personal and professional tributes. Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Chairman of MTN Nigeria, spoke of Dr. Dozie’s commitment to advancing ethical standards in Nigeria’s private sector. Gabriel Idahosa, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, described him as a man driven by unwavering values and a deep sense of national service.
Recalling their years of collaboration, former NSE Council President Dr. Raymond Obieri remarked, “Pascal was a calm and steady presence in turbulent times. His focus was never on personal power, but on building a legacy of purpose-driven leadership.”
Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Mr. Ahonsi Unuigbe, encouraged attendees to sustain Dr. Dozie’s legacy through continued ethical leadership. “He was a force for good who inspired lasting change. The best way to honour him is to ensure our institutions uphold the principles he stood for.”
Mr. Olaniyi Yusuf, Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), described Dr. Dozie as a foundational influence on Nigeria’s economic reforms. “He was more than a pioneer; he was a guiding light in our quest for a globally competitive economy.”
In a touching personal tribute, Uzoma Dozie reflected on his father’s quiet wisdom and powerful influence. “He led with grace, not noise. His lessons shaped many lives and institutions. His absence creates a void, but his impact remains.”
NGX Group CEO, Mr. Temi Popoola, described the late leader as “a trailblazer whose visionary work laid the foundation for modern finance in Nigeria. His legacy will continue to shape the future.”
Other speakers included former NSE Interim Administrator Mr. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, former NGX Group CEO Mr. Oscar N. Onyema, Chairman of NGX Regulation Mr. Olufemi Akinsanya, Futureview Group Managing Director Mrs. Elizabeth Ebi, and media executive Mr. Frank Aigbogun.
The event concluded with the ringing of the ceremonial gong — a symbolic gesture marking not an end, but a continuation of the values and vision Dr. Dozie championed throughout his life: transparency, innovation, and dedication to national development.
