JUST IN: US Embassy Warns Citizens in Nigeria About Planned Protests

The United States Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria have issued a security advisory to American citizens regarding planned demonstrations by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja and other major cities.

According to the embassy, the protests are scheduled for Friday, March 28, 2025, and could lead to significant traffic disruptions, roadblocks, and possible confrontations.

The embassy has cautioned Americans to steer clear of locations such as Bannex Plaza, Berger Junction, Unity Fountain, the National Human Rights Commission Head Office, Eagle Square, Area 10 Shopping Plaza, the National Mosque, Al-Noor Mosque, and Fouad Lababidi Mosque.

To minimize risks, the embassy urged Americans to stay away from protest areas, avoid large gatherings, remain alert if caught near demonstrations, follow local news for updates, be mindful of their surroundings, keep mobile phones charged, and carry valid identification.

Despite the alert, the US Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will continue to operate as usual.

In a related development, the embassy also reminded visa holders about the consequences of overstaying, cautioning that violations could result in permanent travel bans. Furthermore, it warned that any form of visa fraud, including falsified documents or misinformation, could lead to lifetime bans under US immigration regulations.
