Telecom Operators Warn of Network Blackout in Two Nigerian States

Telecom operators have issued a warning that Lagos and Ogun States may face significant network disruptions owing to a diesel shortage triggered by an ongoing strike by Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), part of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

Tony Emoekpere, President of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), labeled the situation as a national emergency.

The diesel supply to telecom infrastructure has been severely impacted, causing critical sites to run dangerously low on fuel. This situation threatens to cripple economic activities and compromise public safety. The strike began in response to allegations of repeated harassment of tanker drivers by police in Lagos. ATCON is urging the governors of Lagos and Ogun States to intervene immediately to prevent widespread disruptions for millions of mobile and internet users.
