The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) has halted crude feed into the 16-inch Nun River-Kolo stream trunkline in Bayelsa following an oil spill.
The leak, detected in the Obololi community of Southern Ijaw LGA, led to the suspension of production and the activation of SPDC’s Oil Spill Response Team. The team isolated the affected line, and a joint investigation to assess the cause and impact of the spill is underway.

Michael Adande, SPDC’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that regulatory authorities and stakeholders have been notified.
The pipeline, which transports crude from Bayelsa’s wetlands to SPDC’s manifold in Kolo, remains submerged, making it difficult to determine the exact cause of the leak. The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has begun a joint investigation to establish the cause and effects of the spill.
