Zenith Bank Expands Global Footprint with New Paris Branch
Zenith Bank Plc has extended its global presence with the launch of Zenith Bank (UK), Paris Branch, and announced plans to establish subsidiaries in Francophone Africa, beginning with Cameroon and Ivory Coast.
In a statement on Thursday, the bank revealed that the Paris branch, located at 21 Rue de la Paix, was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun. This development represents a pivotal step in Zenith Bank’s international growth strategy and highlights its dedication to serving clients across Europe.
During her address, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive of Zenith Bank, Adaora Umeoji, emphasized the significance of the expansion, stating, “The Paris branch is part of our broader strategy to extend Zenith Bank’s presence in major global financial hubs while supporting the international business needs of our customers. This move also reinforces trade and financial ties between our customers in France and other regions. Given Nigeria’s substantial contribution to France’s trade with Sub-Saharan Africa, this expansion is highly strategic.”
She further added, “With a strong foothold in Anglophone Africa, we plan to leverage Zenith Bank Paris operations to penetrate the Francophone market, starting with subsidiaries in Ivory Coast and Cameroon. This will enhance trade flows between Africa and France, a key economic partner for the continent.”
Mr. Wale Edun commended the bank’s achievement, saying, “The opening of Zenith Bank in Paris marks a significant milestone, reflecting the trust and credibility Nigerian institutions have built globally. This branch will foster trust within the French business community and facilitate investments into Africa, particularly Nigeria.”
Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, also praised the initiative, stating, “This is a remarkable achievement. Strong banking institutions like Zenith Bank have been instrumental in supporting the growth of businesses like ours, underscoring the critical role of the financial sector in national development.”
Bertrand Dumont, Director General of the Treasury in France, expressed optimism, adding, “This initiative is a key asset for fostering business collaborations between France and Africa. I look forward to seeing the growth and success of this venture in the near future.”

The Chairman of the France-Nigeria Business Council, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, reflected on the milestone, saying, “Fifteen years ago, Zenith Bank led the way in opening branches in the UK. Today, we celebrate this significant Paris expansion, a testament to Zenith Bank’s visionary leadership and commitment to excellence.”
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including governors from Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, and Enugu States; business leaders such as Abdul Samad Rabiu of BUA Group; and federal ministers and agency heads, including Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite and Aisha Rimi. This landmark occasion underscores Zenith Bank’s continued efforts to strengthen its global operations and foster international economic partnerships.
