President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, alongside the renewal of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz’s tenure as head of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The appointments take immediate effect, according to an official statement.

Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the next election cycle.

Prior to his appointment, Aliyu served in a senior role within a national agency focused on literacy and non-formal education, bringing experience across academia, research, and public administration.

In his new position, he is expected to oversee capacity development programmes within the petroleum sector, including training, scholarships, and institutional support.

The PTDF plays a central role in building technical expertise for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, making the leadership transition significant for the sector’s human capital development agenda.

In a related move, the president renewed the tenure of Abdulaziz as chief executive of the transmission company for a second and final term.

The decision follows an assessment of his performance in managing the national grid, during which several projects were implemented to improve transmission capacity and network stability.

With more than three decades of experience in the power sector, Abdulaziz has also contributed to regional electricity initiatives, including cross-border power integration efforts.

The transmission company remains a critical link in Nigeria’s electricity value chain, responsible for evacuating power from generation companies and delivering it to distribution networks.

Both appointments come as the government intensifies efforts to strengthen institutions within the energy sector, with a focus on improving efficiency and service delivery.
