Abbey Mortgage Bank Appoints Okonkwo as Executive Director

Abbey Mortgage Bank Plc has bolstered its leadership team with the appointment of Mr. John Okonkwo as Executive Director in charge of Finance, Risk, and Operations.
According to an official statement released on Wednesday, the appointment received the necessary approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria following a comprehensive regulatory review.
Okonkwo brings more than two decades of experience in finance, auditing, risk management, and corporate governance across multiple sectors, particularly financial services. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, he is also an alumnus of the Advanced Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
A former executive at Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa Plc, and VFD Group Plc, Okonkwo is expected to contribute significantly to the bank’s long-term strategy, focusing on institutional stability, operational efficiency, and customer-centric innovation.
Board Chairman High Chief Samuel Oni expressed confidence in the appointment, noting, “John’s extensive expertise in finance and risk management will play a crucial role in strengthening Abbey’s operational foundation and future growth.”
The Managing Director of Abbey Mortgage Bank, Mobolaji Adewumi, also remarked that Okonkwo’s arrival comes at a pivotal stage in the bank’s transformation journey, describing his expertise as key to building a more resilient and efficient organisation.
